Fancy meeting you here
Thirteen of the 70-plus North Forkers who embarked on a recent pilgrimage to Israel reunited in Jerusalem with Greenport High School graduate Linda Livni (sixth from right), who previously owned The Arcade in Greenport.

Spring has sprung! I know this because, thanks to my lovely neighbor Ann Stanilaus, I see a variety of daffodils and jonquils in multiple hues that Ann has planted along the chain-link fence that separates our yards. Thanks, Ann, for sharing it with us.

I’m so pleased to announce that Tenesha and Warren Jensen are the proud parents of Claire Elizabeth, who entered our world April 15, tipping the scales at 8 pounds, 15 ounces. Bragging rights to this beautiful bundle of joy belong to her big sister, Taylor; her big brother, Warren Jr.; maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis Bellamy of Maryland; and paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Warren Jensen of Greenport.

Theresa Bubb wanted to quietly welcome in that special birthday she’s celebrating this year, but her family had other plans. This past Saturday, Theresa was the very surprised guest of honor at a birthday party held for her at the Soundview Restaurant. Kudos to Rachel Levin Murphy and crew for the wonderful job they did!

I don’t want anyone on Facebook this weekend saying they’re bored, because if they are, it’s their own gosh-darn fault. This weekend is going to be a fun-filled weekend at Greenport High School.

On Friday, April 23, the GTA will present the annual Greenport Idol competition, which others have tried to copy but no one has seemed to duplicate. It will be held in the school auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and a 50/50 raffle will take place in conjunction with the show.

On Saturday, four teams of alumni, with a few teachers thrown in, will compete to see who reigns supreme on the GHS basketball court. I’m a diehard fan and, I’ve got to tell you, I’m pretty excited that the likes of Sam Carey, Chris Hansen, Mike Checklick, Chris Doucett, Mike Murphy, Matt Duell, Ryan Creighton and Gerald Crenshaw — to name just a few — will be back at GHS. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door. Game time is 7 p.m.

Proceeds from both these events will benefit the Dr. Dennis Claire scholarship fund and/or the Mike Brown and Corey Freeman scholarship funds.

Last, but definitely not least, Congregation Tifereth Israel and North Fork Reform Synagogue will co-host a Poetry Slam at the Greenport synagogue on Sunday, April 25, at 1 p.m. Poets of all ages can register by calling Sylvia at 765-6182 or Paula at 477-6530. Judges will be Tammy Morgan, Poppy Johnson and Jerry Case.

Belated birthday wishes go out to Paul Davis, who celebrated a very special birthday April 19.

Because Barbara Davidson is one special lady, special wishes go out to her this week from Doug and Mike (and me as well) as she celebrates her birthday April 23. Happy birthday, Barbara!

Also celebrating this week are Josh Finno, Sean Heaney and Daniel Holmes, Jr. on the 22nd; Leah Lupton, Chris (Gaffga) Dinizio, Jody Heaney and Richard Hulse III on the 23rd; Dedrick Hutley, Amy Pacholk and Bob Wiltse on the 24th; Kevin Comiskey, Megan Kruszeski, Dave Brandi, Pat Kohl, the Macomber boys (John III and John IV) and Estefany Molina on the 25th; Denise Angevine and Kristen Welch on the 26th; and Shannon Verity Fisher and Tyler Corazzini, granddaughter of Jack Skrezec, on the 27th.
