They took on several projects, including  planting flower seedlings, grounds clean-up and preparing garden beds for planting. Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world with participants in all 50 states and 84 countries.  Southold’s youth bureau partners with the Peconic Land Trust in putting on the event, designed to teach young people to improve their communities through public service.
