Oysterponds

Hope all the mothers out there had a great Mother’s Day. I certainly hope my mother enjoyed her day off from writing the column. She was worried that I wouldn’t get to it, but I did!

There will be a forum tonight, Thursday, May 13, at 7 at the East Marion Firehouse. It will offer community members an opportunity to ask school board candidates about their views on the important issues. School board elections will be held Tuesday, May 18, at the school from 3 to 9 p.m.

This Saturday, May 15, head over to Oysterponds to participate in the Charles Woznick Scholarship Fun Run, at 10 a.m. The scholarship benefits a Greenport graduate who also graduated from Oysterponds. For more information, call 323-2410.

East Marion Community Association’s annual meeting is also at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the firehouse. Tim Bishop’s office will be represented to answer questions you may have about Plum Island and any other issues that impact the Oysterponds community.

Congratulations will be in order on Saturday for the new bride and groom, Kate Lauber (newly minted holder of a master’s degree in library science) and her soon-to-be hubby, Andy Criss. If you see them around town, wish them well as they head into wedded bliss — as only you can in Orient. I will be up on Saturday to help celebrate the day. Can’t wait!

Mom and the rest of the group made it back safe and sound from Israel, and Paula Shengold just got back from Ireland. Is there something wrong with this statement, or maybe it is a testament to what is so great about this world.

Sympathy goes out to Peggy, Ali and Kate Lauber on the passing of Peggy’s mother. Our sympathy is also extended to the family and friends of Charlie Devoe, longtime Orient resident.

See you all real soon! North Fork, here I come!
