Southold Police Report

Ms. Gomez told police she was making a right-hand turn when Mr. Lavado’s vehicle struck her, police said. Mr. Lavado was unconscious at the scene of the accident. When he came to, he told police he was unsure what had happened, police said. He was taken to Peconic Bay Medical center for evaluation, police said.

* Richard Drake, 63, of Mattituck was driving a 1990 Isuzu SUV east on Route 25 in East Marion last Thursday at 12:11 p.m., when he struck a 2008 SUV driven by Suzanne Barone, 19, of Huntington, whose vehicle was driving in front of Mr. Drake’s on Route 25, police said.

Ms. Barone told police that she had been slowing to make a left-hand turn into a private driveway when Mr. Drake crossed over the double yellow line, attempting to pass her, and struck her vehicle, police said. Mr. Drake told police that Ms. Barone’s vehicle had been slowing for a right turn onto Gillette Drive, but then Ms. Barone “changed her mind,” pulled back onto Route 25 from the shoulder and the vehicles collided, police said.

Based on skid marks and debris left at the scene, investigation revealed that Mr. Drake did strike Ms. Barone’s vehicle while passing over the double yellow line, apparently believing that Ms. Barone was making a right-hand turn when in fact she was making a left-hand turn, police said. Both drivers were taken by members of the Greenport Fire Department to Eastern Long Island Hospital for evaluation, police said.

Ms. Matthaei was also driving west on Route 25 when she signaled to turn right but made a left-hand turn instead, police said.
