Judith M. Osler of Mattituck died June 10 at her home. She was 78 years old, much to the surprise of all but her closest friends.

Judy was born to H. Merrill and Dorothy McKown in Swampscott, Mass., and grew up in Floral Park, N.Y. Following high school, she went to Endicott College in Beverly, Mass.

After graduation, Judy worked as an executive secretary in New York City at the corporate offices of Pan Am airlines. Her job there instilled a love for travel that stayed with her for the rest of her life. Her travel with both family and friends took her to all corners of the globe and brought her great joy.

Judy was a talented and accomplished athlete from her school days into later life, with tennis and golf being the two sports at which she excelled most. She was a longtime member at North Fork Country Club in Cutchogue, where she twice made it to the finals of the ladies’ club championship and was a top competitor on the tennis courts.

In 1959, Judy married Wilbur F. Osler III. Together they raised four boys, Mark, Darryl, Bruce and Scott. Judy treasured her family, who gathered at her Mattituck home each summer. In addition to her husband and her boys, Judy is survived by her brother, Gilbert McKown; sister-in-law Jane Kyle; daughters-in-law Kathryn and Julie; significant others Mary Conyers and Jennifer Heede; niece Deborah (McKown) Seguine; and eight grandchildren, whom she adored: Kyle, Bryan, Sean, Madison, Jordan, Ryan, Colleen and Boden. She will also be missed by her beloved dog, Dillon.
