A man involved in a near head-on car crash on the Main Road in Peconic was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center Monday afternoon. Two other people, a husband and wife, were taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital.
Police said it appears John Burns, 45, of Peconic was driving a Volvo wagon westbound on Route 25 when he veered into the eastbound lane and struck a BMW sedan just east of Wells Avenue. Dennis Driscoll, 69, and his wife, Denny, 67, of Garden City were driving in the BMW.
Traffic was temporarily diverted to the North Road following the accident.
