Ask anyone who has participated in the Relay for Life and they’ll tell you it usually rains. Not this year. The humidity was high and so were the spirits of all involved. Thanks to all who took part in this great event.

I just read about another soldier killed in Afghanistan — and this time, it was a young man from the North Fork. Sincere condolences to the family of Army Lieutenant Joseph Theinert of Shelter Island, who made the ultimate sacrifice. May the prayers and support of our community be a source of comfort to the Theinert family.

A memorial service for former Southold resident Dick Montgomery will be held Sunday, June 27, at 2 p.m. at Southold Presbyterian Church. Dick passed away in February after a valiant battle with cancer.

Congratulations to Pam Babcock, who received her master’s degree in social work last month from the SUNY/Stony Brook School of Social Welfare. Pam has worked at Peconic Landing as a social worker and admissions coordinator since 2002 and has aspired to earn her MSW since the 1980s. With the support of her family and her husband, Jeff, she was able to reach her goal.
