WORTH NOTING Fight cancer, play games, walk and have fun

The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life fundraiser comes in two versions this year. The earliest is Southold’s fifth annual Relay on Saturday, June 5, from 5 p.m. to midnight at Jean Cochran Park on Peconic Lane. The evening includes walking the track with family, friends, co-workers as well as activities, games, refreshments and local entertainment. Learn about cancer, honor and support survivors and, finally, remember those no longer with us in the luminaria ceremony. For information, call 734-5050, e-mail [email protected] or visit relayforlife.org/southoldny.

For a different take on the Relay, Riverhead’s Stotzky Park will be the scene of Bark for Life on Saturday, June 12, from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Barkers and their owners are invited to participate in such contests as best tail-wagger, longest (or shortest) ears and dog/owner lookalike. Meanwhile, non-owners may enjoy walking, playing games, listening to music, joining a team or just rooting for friends. There will also be a survivors’ dinner, and the evening will end with a luminaria ceremony. To find out more, join a team, donate or participate, visit relayforlife.org/riverheadbark.

Joining in either Relay event is a fun way to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
