Former Greenport resident Camille Marie Atherton died May 20 in Portland, Ore. She was 86.
Ms. Atherton was born and raised in Chicago before moving to New York in 1952. She earned her bachelor’s degree from The New School and later her master’s from Hunter College, both in New York City.
Ms. Atherton worked as a rehabilitation counselor for the state of New York.
According to her family, she was an “amateur playwright, gardener and gourmet chef.”
She is survived by her daughters, Alicia Burton of Gresham, Ore., and Olivia, of Bremen, Maine; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Private arrangements were handled by Crown Memorial Center in Portland, Ore.
