Swimathon to benefit CAST

The North Fork Swimming Club will hold its annual Swimathon at the Matt-A-Mar pool in Mattituck on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings next week. Proceeds will benefit Community Action of Southold Town.

Participants collect pledges and promise to swim a specific number of laps or to swim for a two-hour period. The youngest participants will swim between 6 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3. Intermediates will swim the same hours on Wednesday, Aug. 4; and the senior group swims Thursday, Aug. 5.

Beach services scheduled

North Fork Reform Synagogue’s summer Friday night services will be celebrated at Kenney’s Beach in Southold on Aug. 6 and 20 at around 7:30 p.m. following a picnic supper. Junior Bulldogs celebrate

The Junior Bulldogs of the Mattituck Fire Department will celebrate their 25th anniversary at a party scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 7. Former junior Bulldogs who want to attend can call Leonard Llewellyn (298-4793), Edward Cassidy (298-6563) or Robert Shaw (298-5640). Is your garden ecofriendly?

Times/Review Newsgroup is looking for pictures and information on ecologically friendly gardens and community gardens to be featured in next spring’s Home and Garden supplement.

We want to hear from you if you are using goods made from recycled materials, ecologically harvested timber and other earth-friendly ingredients; if your garden is filled with environmentally friendly garden supplies, accents and accessories; if you are growing an edible organic garden; if there is a habitat for wildlife; or any other ecofriendly gardening highlights. Information and photos are also sought on community gardens.

Church hosts conference trip

Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue is offering a trip to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of the Diocese of Scranton Conference 2010, Friday to Sunday, Aug. 6 to 8.

The conference will be held at the University of Scranton (Pa.) and housing will be available on campus and at a local motels. Transportation via Hampton Jitney will be available from Southold.

Counseling for caregivers

Free counseling for those providing care for the elderly is available from Family Service League, Riverhead. Call 369-0104 for an appointment.

Vacation Bible school

Mattituck Presbyterian Church is offering a vacation Bible school with the theme “SonQuest Rainforest.” The classes meet daily Aug. 9-13, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Recycle to support museum

The Southold Indian Museum is collecting old cell phones and used/empty ink cartridges, to be recycled as an ongoing fundraising effort. Items can be dropped off at the Main Bayview Road museum Saturdays and Sundays between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. For more information, call 765-5577.

CAST seeks mentors

Community Action of Southold Town is launching a new mentorship program and invites anyone interested in becoming a mentor to a meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Greenport Recreation Center, next to the Opportunity Shop. For more information, call 477-1717.
