Southold Police Report

A 48-year-old Southold man was arrested early Tuesday morning after fleeing the scene of a domestic dispute and crashing his car, Southold police said.

Evan Weingold of Lower Road had an accident on the Main Road in Southold, according to police, who did not provide details. Mr. Weingold suffered minor injuries. Following his release from Eastern Long Island Hospital, he was held overnight at police headquarters and arraigned Tuesday on charges of unlicensed operation of a vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, and operating an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle. Police said several warrants had been issued for Mr. Weingold’s arrest by the Suffolk County Police Department.

* A 60-year-old Southold man was charged with boating while intoxicated Saturday night after he was stopped for violating the Greenport Harbor speed limit, Southold Police said. William Boyles of Hiawatha’s Path was stopped shortly after 6:30 p.m. because, police said, he was operating his boat in excess of the 5 mph speed limit. Police said they determined Mr. Boyles was intoxicated, and he was transported to police headquarters and held overnight for arraignment.

* A Connecticut teen who was bicycling along the Main Road in Southold was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center yesterday afternoon (Wed.) with possible head injuries after he swerved into the road and was struck by a van, town police said. Raleigh Cockerill, 15, of Darien was heading west on the shoulder at the intersection with Locust Lane when he veered into the path of a 2005 Ford utility van driven by Alfred Welch Jr., 32, of Greenport. The teen’s condition was not known at presstime.

* A Southold teenager was arrested Monday morning after he was caught with marijuana, police said. Two officers said they saw Noah Smith, 17, of Grigonis Path sitting in his car in a parking lot on Route 25 between Southold and Greenport at around 1 a.m., and they found him to be in possession of marijuana when they approached his car. He was transported to police headquarters and issued a ticket to appear in court.

* A 32-year-old Jamesport man was charged with criminal possession of stolen property after Southold Town police said they found him with scrap copper stolen from a Mattituck business. Bert Roner of Peconic Bay Boulevard was arrested at the site of the alleged theft on the afternoon of July 16. Police impounded his 2002 Cadillac and a barrel of copper they found in it, and they issued Mr. Roner an appearance ticket.

* Lorraine Vicarelli, 55, of Mattituck was arrested by Southold police for allegedly damaging a contractor’s vehicle at her home on July 13. She was charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, a felony.

* A 22-year-old Peconic resident complained of head pain and was taken to ELIH after a two-car accident at the corner of Route 48 and Youngs Avenue in Southold just after 6 p.m. on July 16, police said. Frank Savits allegedly failed to yield at the signal while turning onto Youngs Avenue and hit a car driven by Robert Doering, 38, of Southold. Police said the light was in flashing mode and was not operating correctly at the time of the accident.

* Kathleen Bozsnyak, 21, of Cut¬­chogue, was traveling west on Route 48 at 3:30 a.m. on July 18 when, she said, a car entered her lane of travel, causing her to swerve and hit two utility poles in succession, according to Southold Town police reports. She was taken to ELIH with minor injuries.

* Two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries when their vehicles collided at the intersection of Route 48 and Peconic Lane in Peconic shortly after 1 p.m. Friday. Southold police said it appears one car was westbound on Route 48 and, when turning south onto Peconic Lane, the driver failed to yield to an eastbound SUV, hitting that vehicle, which then struck a utility pole.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
