Greenport

I’m still waiting for my summer to begin. I made an emergency trip to Virginia as soon as school got out to dog-sit for my daughter and son-in-law, came home in time to attend our two-day cheerleading camp (I’m betting some cheerleaders are still sore when this hits the newsstands) and then had family visiting for the holiday weekend. Life is good, isn’t it?

Speaking of GHS cheerleaders, I have to commend them for how hard they worked at their camp. They so impressed their instructors that they were received a certificate of excellence for their wonderful demeanor and hard work. Congratulations, girls; you earned that one!

The St. Agnes Rosary Altar Society will hold a Chinese auction this Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Agnes Hall on Sixth Street.

La Leche League of Greenport had to postpone its yard sale fundraiser to Saturday, July 24, at 421 Second St. Donations of furniture, clothing, knickknacks, books, toys, etc., in good condition are still welcome. Call 477-5914 or e-mail [email protected].

The GHS Class of 1970 will hold its 40th reunion July 23-25. There’s still time for classmates who are interested in attending. Call Marilyn White Corwin at 834-0106 or Theresa DiLalla Goldsmith at 765-3429.

Get well wishes to two of my neighbors — Jim Quatroche and Elise Webb — who are just too nice to be sick. Get well soon.

It sure was nice having Jim’s siblings here for the holiday weekend. Cindy arrived from Massachusetts, Teresa from Indiana and Mike and family from Georgia. Sorely missed was Jim’s sister, Joylene, who wasn’t able to make it.

Belated birthday wishes to Mark Mysliborski, who celebrated June 24, and Starrfire Edwards, whose birthday was the 26th.

Celebrating this week are my co-celebrants, P.J. Corazzini, Jeff Geier, Roy Taplin, Cornelia Keogh, Helen Halliwell and Bob Gessner on the 8th; Jim’s brother-in-law “Kip” O’Connell, Fred Schoenstein, Tiarra Edwards and Mike Comanda on the 10th; Darlene Pacholk, Dana Saetta and Sam Carey on the 11th; Matt Charters, Sean Powers, Brandi Monique, Marcellus Shedrick Jr. and my son-in-law Dan Decker on the 12th; Xavier DeJesus on the 13th; and Steven Quillin, Dick Hulse and Ayania Smith on the 14th.

A happy anniversary to Jean and Tom Hughes, who will be celebrate 19 years together on July 13.
