Allstate mows down Lawn Care

They are getting better each and every week.

Allstate exploded for nine runs in the second inning and went on to beat Eric’s Lawn Care 19-3 last Thursday night in the North Fork Women’s Softball League at the Polo Grounds in Greenport.

Amy Kirincic pitched a magnificent game for Allstate, as she not only quieted the Eric’s Lawn Care bats, she also struck out four batters. She helped her own cause at the plate going 4-for-4, with two runs scored. Jill Clacherty also had four hits and drove in three runs.

Erin Bednoski had three hits, with two runs batted in and a pair of runs scored. Jess Heaney stroked a triple and knocked in five runs. Heaney, Tracy Sutton, and Lisl Thomas each had two hits. Jill Schroeder drew four walks. Allstate put the game away with three runs in the fifth and six more in the seventh.

Kirincic had some spectacular defensive help behind her, as Amy Reuschle was a magician at shortstop and Thomas made a sensational catch in right field in the bottom of the sixth inning.

“We played a very strong game this week,” Schroeder said. “We played our best defensive game and only made three errors. We showed great patience batting. We took many walks, which means we played smart waiting for the right pitch to swing at.”

In the other game, Fogarty Air Conditioning Service blanked Community Speech Language and Learning Center 24-0. Fogarty erupted for nine runs in the second and eight more runs in the fourth to win this mercy-rule-shortened four-and-a-half-inning game.

Fogarty tallied a pair of runs in the first on an RBI-triple by Holli Bollman and she scored on Diana Stulsky’s single. In the nine-run rally in the second, Kathy Thompson led off with a single. Elaine Milovich doubled. Bollman and Stulsky had run-scoring singles. Melissa Groenveld lined a two-run single, Cathy Checklick had a run-scoring single, Courtney Meringer ripped a two-run single and Thompson capped the uprising with a two-run single.

Milovich, Thompson and Groenveld all had four hits. Thompson finished with five runs batted in. Bollman had a trio of hits and knocked in two runs.

Stulsky got the win for first place Fogarty (3-0). G&C Petroleum (2-1) is in second place, followed by Allstate (2-1), Eric’s Lawn Care (1-3) and Community Speech Language and Learning Center (0-3).
