William Maco Smith

William Maco Smith of Greenport died Sept. 18 at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System Hospital in Manhasset. He was 59.

He was born Sept. 5, 1951, in Aurora, N.C., to Eddie and Irene (Phillips) Smith. He graduated from Greenport High School and the Job Corps in Minnesota.

In November 1974, he married Glenda Terry in the Bronx. Mr. Smith worked as a CNA for White Plains Nursing Home for 30 years.

According to his family, he enjoyed collecting, going to antique car shows, cooking, watching Western movies and listening to R&B music. Family members also said he loved tractor trailers and surfing the Internet.

Predeceased by his wife in 1998 and his mother in 1992, Mr. Smith is survived by his father; his partner, Venus White; his children, Lillian and Osmond, both of New York City, William and Victoria, both of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., and Glenise, of Texas; his siblings, Doris Cotto of Southold, Elaine Jackson, Carolyn, Bernice, Eddie Jr., Robert, Steven and Dennis, all of Greenport, Samuel, of Riverhead, and Phillip, of Brooklyn; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 24, at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport by Pastor Doug Davis. Private cremation will follow.
