William S. Topping

Former Mattituck resident William S. Topping of Stuart, Fla., died Sept. 13 at Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart.

He was born in Troy, N.Y., and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II and participated in the Battle of Okinawa.

Mr. Topping had been a music teacher at Mattituck High School and a forest ranger for the Division of Forestry. After moving to Florida in 1978, he became a farmer.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, in 2009; a daughter, Catherine; and a sister, Anna Mae Boblin.

Mr. Topping is survived by his children, Carol Guyton of Palm City, Fla., Janet Isackson of Roxboro, N.C., William, of Stuart, Fla., and Robert, of Longmont, Colo.; his sister, Helen Topping of West Palm Beach, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service was held at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City, Fla. Arrangements were handled by Forest Hills Funeral Homes.
