Cops: Greenport man threatened victim with baseball bats, unloaded shotgun

A 20-year-old Greenport man is facing menacing charges after allegedly using an unloaded shotgun and baseball bats to threaten another young man, Southold Town Police said.
The victim, also a 20-year-old from Greenport, told investigators that Richard Hermance followed him out of a house with baseball bats after the two had an argument about 1:15 a.m. Monday.
After the victim managed to get the bats away from his assailant, police say Mr. Hermance went into the house to get a shotgun, which he chambered, despite the fact that it was unloaded, and pointed at the victim. Police said that the victim managed to take the shotgun and wrestle Mr. Hermance to the ground until police arrived.
