Cutchogue-New Suffolk

On Labor Day weekend, North Fork Country Club and more than 4,000 other golf courses participated in Patriot Golf Day. Golfers nationwide have raised more than $5.4 million in the last three years for the Folds of Honor Foundation. After serving three tours in Iraq, PGA professional Dan Rooney, an F-16 fighter pilot with the Oklahoma Air National Guard, started the foundation. “We have lost so many soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice,” he said. “America can come together in the spirit of golf and have a dramatic impact. We have an opportunity to make a difference for the families who have made the ultimate sacrifice.” The foundation has also awarded more than 1,163 post-secondary educational scholarships. Jody Gillen leads ‘Folk Art in Stone,’ a walking tour through Cutchogue’s historic Old Burying Ground, on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. The tour is $5 and includes complimentary refreshments. Hosted by the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Society as part of its 50th anniversary celebration. Participation is limited to 25. Call 734-7442 or 734-7122 to register. Rain date is Sept. 12.

The historical council will also sponsor a walking tour of New Suffolk with Roberta Jaklevic on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon. Meet at the submarine marker/flagpole at the waterfront. Following the tour a lunch of chowder and sandwiches will be served in the Red Barn on the Village Green in Cutchogue. The fee is $7. Tour is limited to 20 people, so call 734-6062 for your reservation. Please include your e-mail address. Rain date is Sept. 19.

Calling chefs and cooking aficionados: The not-for-profit New Suffolk School Enrichment Fund needs your help in creating a community cookbook. The fund is set up to enrich after-school and summer programs and beautification efforts for New Suffolk School. To submit recipes for the cookbook, please use the form included with your newsletter or visit newsuffolkschool.com, where you can print it out. All submissions should be dropped in the box on the school’s front porch by Sept. 17.

Speaking of food, it’s not too late to get tickets for North Fork Reform Synagogue’s Foodie Tour on Saturday, Sept. 12, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy a day of tours, visits and events celebrating the unique artisanal foods produced on the North Fork.
