Hurricane Earl departs with only minor impact

A weakened Hurricane Earl slipped past the North Fork Friday night with only moderate rain and wind and caused no major property damage or power outages. Saturday’s gusty winds, which roiled the Sound at Southold Town Beach,  provided the only evidence that Earl had been nearby.
