Friedrick J. Eimers

Friedrick (Fred) John Eimers, age 90, died Thursday, Aug. 19, at the Riverhead Care Center from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Born Oct. 5, 1919, in Brooklyn, he served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. After being discharged, he worked the racetrack circuit of Saratoga Springs/Aqueduct/Belmont for the Harry Stevens Concession.

During that time he met his wife, Inge, whom he married in 1947. They moved in 1949 to Wading River, where he obtained his real estate license and purchased the Wildwood Pavilion Bar and Grill Restaurant near Wildwood State Park, which he ran until 1970.

Fred also worked for a few years at Peconic Dunes Camp in Southold before he began work at the Riverhead County Center in the real property tax assessment department. He eventually became deputy county clerk under Arthur Felice, before retiring in 1985.

Fred was a Mason, and longtime member of the Riverhead Elks Lodge, as well as a lifelong Republican and active member of the Riverhead GOP and Republican Club. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, children and animals.

He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Inge, as well as a son, David Eimers of Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Lori Eimers McKiernan (Tim) of Southold; and a grandson, Christopher McKiernan of Meadville, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a gift to Alzheimer’s research to help fight this terrible disease that Fred suffered from for over 10 years, or your favorite local charity.
