Southold-Peconic: Southold Rotary Club’s annual scallop dinner Tuesday, Oct. 19

I hope you’ve been enjoying the wonderfully cool, comfortable fall days. This is a great time of year to visit your favorite local farm stand and prepare something delicious with the wide variety of produce that’s in season. Add some fresh seafood and a bottle of local wine and you have the perfect meal!
If you’ve been craving scallops, come to the Southold Rotary Club’s annual scallop dinner on Tuesday, Oct. 19, from noon to 8 p.m. at the Soundview. Tickets are $25. You may also select chicken, if you prefer.
The Southold Athletic Association will sponsor a 5K and half-mile run on Saturday, Nov. 6. All are welcome to participate. I’ll keep you posted on the details.
Madeleine Heinisch recently attended the Grand Reunion of all graduates of Mary Immaculate School of Nursing in Douglaston, N.Y. Classmates from 1939-1971 were on hand for the festivities.
Happy anniversary to Peter and Linda Van Mater on the 16th.
A belated happy birthday to Fritzi Kurz, who turned 16 on Oct. 13. Fritzi is an exchange student from Germany who is studying at SHS this year.
Delia McBride has a birthday today, the 14th; Sharon Corridan and Lori Kramer cut their cakes on the 15th, the same day Allison Schlacter turns the big 3-0; Abby Scharadin turns 14 on the 16th; Rosalie Cavaluzzi’s special day is the 16th; Louis Comito’s is the 18th; Lauren Egan, Frank Locrotondo and Jean Osmer celebrate on the 19th; and Jenna Park and Michelle Surozenski blow out candles on the 20th.
The Southold Fire Department Juniors are looking for new members. Boys and girls ages 13-17 are invited to come and find out what being a SFD Junior is all about. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the main firehouse. Dinner is included. Bring a friend!
Southold Free Library’s expansion proposal vote is this Saturday, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
SHS’s varsity cheerleaders are ready for a new season with a new coach, Kerin Foster. During the school’s recent Spirit Day, the cheerleaders performed a routine designed and choreographed by team captain Sara Abrams.
Everyone’s invited to the PTA book fair on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 6-8 p.m., in the elementary school cafeteria. Books for all ages will be available. Support the PTA and get a jump on holiday shopping.
