Southold-Peconic: Southold Mother’s Club to host children’s clothing sale Oct. 23

This time of year on the North Fork, you may be wearing shorts one day and a fleece jacket the next. A few more 70-degree days would be appreciated, with a little less wind. No one wants to rake any sooner than necessary.
The Southold Mother’s Club will have a children’s clothing sale this Saturday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Recreation Center in Peconic. Admission is $5. Those who donate clothing in advance of the sale will be admitted free. Call Linda Stavrinos at 433-4946 if you have items to contribute. All unsold items will be donated to charity.
Belated happy birthday to Connie Sawicki, who celebrated Oct. 17, from Bill, Cindy, Ashley, Asjia, Anthony and Brooke. Asjia Martocchia blows out her candles today, Oct. 21, as does my brother, Kevin Elak. Don Fisher celebrates on the 22nd and former Southold resident Caren Maietta on the 25th.
Another former Southolder, Helen Prince, turns 99 today, Oct. 21. She now lives in Fairport, N.Y., and I’m sure she’d love to hear from some of her former students and anyone else who would like to send her birthday wishes. Those wishing to do so may contact me for her address and telephone number.
Jean Jacobs enjoyed a party with family and friends last Saturday at the Meetinghouse Creek Inn in honor of her 80th birthday. I ran into her daughter Jodie later that day when she was picking up a cake for an “after-party” at home.
