Greenport: Football, Halloween and other fall fun

November is right around the corner, folks. Can you believe it? Pretty soon we’ll all be talking about Thanksgiving and the start of the holiday season. I must be having fun because time sure is flying.
The Porter football team heads out to Stony Brook tomorrow (Friday) for the final regular season game. However, chances look pretty good that the boys will be extending their season and playing in the playoffs. Game time at Stony Brook is 7:30 p.m.
Congratulations are definitely in order for Crystal Anderson, Charmaine and Ebony Freeman and Nicole Ellerson. The ladies pulled it all together for the Forever Young benefit and will be giving the Village over $2,000 toward the restoration of the Third Street basketball court. You ladies are amazing!
If wishes were flowers, a field as far as the eye could see would be going out to Charley Kozora, who took an unexpected “vacation” at Stony Brook University Hospital. He got home just in time to celebrate his birthday last Friday. All things considered, I’d say that was a pretty good birthday present.
Don’t forget to contact your local Cub Scout (or Midge Melrose at 477-0541 or [email protected]) to purchase the decorated Christmas wreaths the boys are selling. Centerpieces are also available.
The ELIH Auxiliary will sponsor a sterling silver jewelry sale tomorrow, Oct. 29, in the hospital conference room between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. For further information, please call 477-5196.
Don’t forget San Simeon by the Sound’s Halloween costume party this Saturday, Oct. 30, beginning at 2:30 p.m. There will be a costume contest, games, treats and prizes. It’s open to the general public and all are welcome.
The ELIH Auxiliary’s Southold West branch will host its annual autumn benefit on Friday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. at the Soundview restaurant. Music will be provided by DJ Ed Wright. For tickets, please call 765-2206.
Things are heating up for the upcoming Greenport High School Battle of the Bands concert on Nov. 12, to be held in the school auditorium beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person and proceeds will go toward the purchase of new sound equipment for the school. Participating bands include, but are not limited to, The Entertainment, Bright Coloured Lights, You Again and Eight Track Mind. Contact Tori Staples for your tickets.
The happiest of birthdays is wished this week to Antoine Hunter and Dylan DePetro on Oct. 29; John “NOJ” Williams, Jan Damiani, Adrien Cadwallader and Tom Welch, all on the 30th; David Urban on the 31st; Vicky Chute and Taj McKenzie on Nov. 1; Sally Corwin, “Sooty” Jimenez and Sean McElroy on the 2nd; and Brian Lehmann on the 3rd.
