The Southold-Mattituck-Greenport NJROTC performed its first drill and athletic competition of the school year last weekend at SUNY/Maritime College. With the support from parents and friends from the Mahoney, VanDeWetering, Rubin, Heins, Grigonis, Scholl, Smith, Hands, Gadomski and Cushman families, the cadets dominated; bringing home the first-place Commanders Cup for the sixth year in a row!
The cadets also earned five out of 10 first-place trophies: Commander Kerri Hands, personal inspection; Commander Andy Ennis, armed exhibition; the team of Billy Goggins, Tom Filipkowski, Kyle Clausen and John Hamilton, athletics; Commander Abbie Heins, unarmed platoon; and Commander Matt Ireland, armed squad. The following cadets also placed in the top 10 (out of 212) in the “Knockout Competition:” Richie Smith, eighth place; Michelle Rosnack, fifth place; and Matt Ireland, second place.  Special mention goes to air rifle team member Shelby Pickerell, nicknamed “Eagle Eye,” whose first shot ever was a bull’s-eye. Congratulations to all!
