Christmas decorations seem to appear earlier and earlier every year. I can deal with some signs of the holidays right after Thanksgiving, but not the day after Halloween!
Mark your calendar for Nov. 26 and bring the family to the Southold Historical Society’s annual Candlelight Tour. It’s a wonderfully old-fashioned way to welcome the holiday season. More on this locally popular event as it approaches.
Beautiful poinsettia plants are being sold at Southold Elementary School to benefit sixth-grade field trips. Call the elementary office at 765-5208 for information. Orders are due by Friday, Nov. 19.
The elementary drama students will present the musical “Tom Sawyer” on Nov. 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at Southold Pharmacy or the high school computer lab. The show is directed by Kelli Baumann and Audrey Grathwohl, with sets by Casey Rooney.
Many of you supported the Wounded Warrior Project’s Soldier Ride in September. Now, the “First Settlers” — a team made up of Erick Arauz, Pete Castillo, Chris Conroy, Mike Erdman, Dan Hagerman, Kris Ocker, Carl Ruthinoski and Bryce Wilinski — will compete in the “Toughmudder” on Nov. 21 at Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J. This 12-mile mud course laden with 19 obstacles has been called the “toughest single-day event in the world.” Please support this worthy cause by making a donation at
Belated happy birthday to Max Kruszeski, who turned 10 on Nov. 4. Little Jacob Sweat turns 2 on Nov. 11. Devin Bucci also celebrates on the 11th; Linda Van Mater on the 12th; Henry Rich, who turns 21, on the 13th; Peter Salerno on the 14th; and Joe Pontino on the 16th.
When you turned your clocks back, I hope you also checked the batteries in your smoke detector. If not, it’s a good time to do so.
Something we can all do is thank a vet for our freedom on Veterans Day. Have a great week.
