Southold-Peconic: Sauerkraut Society keeps it delicious

Signs of the holiday season are everywhere. While you prepare for your own traditions, be sure to remember those who are less fortunate. Contributing to one of the many local charities goes a long way in helping our neighbors.

Lou Baker’s place was the site of the Southold Sauerkraut Society’s recent gathering. Under the watchful eye of “krautmeister” Tom Loper, sauerkraut-making is an annual event for this group. After a few weeks of brining, the finished product will be enjoyed by some lucky people.

You’re invited to the St. Patrick Church Christmas party this Saturday evening, Dec. 4, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Cutchogue. Join your friends for dinner, dancing and a chance to win dinner for two at North Fork Table & Inn. Tickets are available for $25 at the church rectory or by calling 765-6576.

Belated happy birthday to Jennifer Jaklevic, who turned 13 on Nov. 27. Chloe Manwaring blows out four candles on Dec. 3, Liz Gordon celebrates on the 6th and Jeanne Minerva’s birthday is the 8th.

Play WINGO this Friday evening, Dec. 3, in the elementary school cafeteria from 7 to 9 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Support Southold High School’s juniors as they host the annual Santa breakfast next Saturday, Dec. 11, 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the elementary cafeteria. Bring the kids and enjoy pancakes, eggs and bacon as well as crafts, a holiday singalong and pictures with Santa. A raffle for an iPod will also take place. The cost is $6 per person or $20 for a family of four.

Set aside some time to attend Community Action of Southold Town’s fifth annual Holiday Happening on Saturday, the 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the town recreation center on Peconic Lane. There will be a bake sale, vendors, a café, raffles and photos with Santa.
