Southold-Peconic: SHS juniors host breakfast with Santa Saturday

We go from cornstalks to Christmas trees very quickly here on the North Fork. My backyard borders on a Christmas tree farm, and on weekends children’s voices (“Mom, Dad, I found the perfect tree!”), holiday music and families spending time together are all part of the idyllic scene.

Troy Baydala’s family was on hand at the afternoon Mass at St. Patrick Church last Saturday in honor of his 93rd birthday. He gave the congregation a wave as he took his place among a dozen or so family members who were there for this special occasion.

Support Southold High School’s junior class at its annual Santa breakfast this Saturday, Dec. 11, 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the elementary school cafeteria. Bring the kids and enjoy a delicious breakfast along with pictures with Santa and a holiday music singalong. The cost is $6 per person or $20 for a family of four.

All senior citizens are invited by the SHS music department to attend a Winter Concert Preview today, Thursday, Dec. 9, at 11:30 a.m. in the district auditorium. Refreshments will be provided by the school’s culinary arts class.

Santa arrives by fire truck at the Southold Fire Department this Sunday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
Middle school music students will present their winter concert on Tuesday, Dec. 14, in the district auditorium. Next Thursday, Dec. 16, the high school band, chorus and orchestra will perform holiday selections for your enjoyment. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

Have any parents out there ever had this dilemma? Your music student tells you at the last minute that he or she needs something to wear for an upcoming concert and nothing fits. Well, the Southold Music Boosters have created a concert attire exchange where students ages 10 to 18 can select from gently used ties, black pants, skirts, dresses, white dress shirts and black dress shoes. After wearing they are to be cleaned and returned for use by others. For information on this program, or to donate, contact Kim Chilton at 765- 4109 or visit [email protected].

Happy birthday to Bill Witzke, who celebrates today, Dec. 9. Jen Phillips has her special day on the 13th, Cheryl Scheidet celebrates on the 14th, and Lucille Jones on the 15th.

Special birthday wishes are sent to Katie Wolosik from the Combs, King and Wood families. Katie turned 101 on Dec. 8. Congratulations!

There are donation boxes at Southold Free Library for pajamas, gently used books and new, unwrapped toys. If you can, please help brighten the holidays for a child.

While you’re at the library, take a chance to win a McKinley train set or Felicity, the American Girl doll. The raffle will be held Dec. 15.

Eddie Costello will present a comedy show entitled, “It’s OK to Laugh at the Library” Sunday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. at the library. You may remember Eddie from one of his antique appraisal programs.
