Greenport: ELIH book sale Friday

Sixteen days, folks! That’s how long you’ve got to mend your ways (provided, of course, that they need mending) to ensure a visit from the jolly ol’ elf! I, for one, can’t wait!

The congregation of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church would like to congratulate the Rev. Garret Johnson, who recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of his ordination.

Angel Soto was given a surprise 80th birthday party on Nov. 27 at Stonewalls in Riverhead. (His actual birthday was Dec. 7.) All of his children — Angelo from Tucson, Ariz., Diana from North Carolina, and Julia, Anthony and Ralph, who live locally — were on hand along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to help him celebrate, making it a very special day for him.
Jean Harris celebrated her birthday this past week, too. (Because I adore her, I won’t mention which one.) Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered for dinner at Skipper’s Restaurant on Dec. 5. Her actual birthday was the 6th. Hope it was a happy one, Mrs. Harris!

Don’t forget the ELIH Auxiliary book sale on Dec. 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the hospital conference room. For information, call 477-5196.

A free showing of the children’s film “Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore” takes place Friday, Dec. 10, at 3:30 p.m. at Floyd Memorial Library.

Santa will visit Greenport again this weekend. On Saturday, Dec. 11, he’ll appear at the Little Red School House on Front Street between 1 and 3 p.m. Be sure to stop by with any last-minute requests!

Also on Saturday, you can take a self-guided Greenport Architectural Tour and visit architectural gems throughout the Village that are decorated in their holiday finest. Maps and tickets ($25) are available at JET’s Dream.

GHS boys’ basketball, led by Greenport’s “Twin Towers” Dantré Langhorne and Tremayne Hansen, kicks off its season next week. The Porters varsity will host the Killer Bees of Bridgehampton on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 5 p.m. The JV opens its season at home on the 17th, hosting Smithtown Christian.

What a nice weekend we had this past week, taking time out from preparing for the holiday to celebrate family. Jim’s sister, Cindy, came down from Cape Cod, and Jim and Cindy celebrated their birthdays (the 5th and 6th, respectively) together with a dinner at home. I’m truly blessed to have what I consider the best in-laws going — sisters, brothers and parents.

Birthday wishes go out this week to Jeff Andrade, who celebrates today, Dec. 9; Linda Owen, Michael Owen, Stella Checklick and Kay Kettering Welch on the 10th; Leslie Parker on the 11th; my cousin Shawn Cutts and Courtney Weber, who may be turning 16 but couldn’t possibly get any sweeter, on the 12th; Jim’s aunt MaryAnn Dinizio on the 13th; Kyle Tuthill, son of Janie and David, on the 14th; and my cousin Nicole Wallace, Meg Strong and Craig Richter on the 15th.

A very happy anniversary to two people I’m lucky enough to call “friends,” Ruthann and P.J. Corazzini, who will celebrate their 23rd wedding anniversary on Dec. 12.
