Mona Schwartz

Mona Schwartz of Riverhead died at her home on Friday, Dec. 3, 2010. She was 71 years old.

She was born in the Bronx on June 29, 1939, to Fred and Fannie Citron. A graduate of Boston University and Brooklyn College, where she received her master’s degree, Mona enjoyed a 29-year career as a teacher in New York City. She was a member of the United Federation of Teachers.

Formerly of Whitestone, Queens, she moved to the Saddle Lakes Community in Riverhead 10 years ago. She was the editor of the Saddle Lakes Times.

Surviving are her husband, Donald Schwartz, whom she married on Dec. 23, 1971, in New York City; three stepsons, Kenneth and Gary, both of Queens, and Michael, of Coney Island; and her best friend, Mildred Glick. She was predeceased by her twin brother, Michael Citron.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 6, at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. Interment was at Beth Moses Cemetery in Farmingdale.
