William Walter Moisa Sr. of Riverhead died Dec. 4 at his home. He was 95.
Born Dec. 6, 1914, the first child of John and Apolonia (Czajkowska) Moisa, he moved to Orient as an infant and later to Mattituck.

On Nov. 20, 1938, he married Agnes Rutkowski at Our Lady of Poland R.C. Church in Southampton. The couple settled in Riverhead soon after.

Mr. Moisa was a truck driver, first owning Moisa Trucking and later working as an independent driver. He also farmed with his brother-in-law, Bruno Sabat.
He loved traveling and having adventures, for instance, flying to Cuba just for pineapple during Castro’s takeover. He also enjoyed trying his luck at the casinos in Connecticut.

He loved having fun and getting into mischief — he was quite a character. He also loved his steaks and seafood and, most of all, his wife’s cooking.

Mr. Moisa was predeceased by his wife, Agnes, on Dec. 28, 2009, and his siblings Jennie Sabat, Julia, Edward and John Henry.

He is survived by his children William W. Moisa Jr. (Marcia) of Riverhead, Barbara Talmadge of Orlando, Fla. and Suzanne Andrejack (Joseph) of Southold; siblings Sophie Tyte of Riverhead, Helen Filla of Riverhead and Joseph, of Mattituck; grandchildren Arlene Hamor, John and Richard Moisa, Paul Talmadge, and Joseph W., William and Aimee Andrejack; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family received visitors Dec. 7 and 8 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 9 at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead by Father Robert Kuznik. Interment followed at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Cemetery in Riverhead.

Memorial donations may be sent to East End Hospice, St. Isidore R.C. Church Capital Campaign Fund, Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps or Peconic Bay Medical Center.
