The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a winter storm warning for snow Tuesday night into Wednesday afternoon.

The Weather Service is predicting 6 to 10 inches of the white stuff to start falling in Southold tomorrow evening, with the heaviest snow after midnight. An additional 4 to 8 inches is possible Wednesday.

The chance of precipitation is now 100 percent and a low temperature of 30 degrees is predicted for Tuesday night. Wind gusts of 19 to 32 mph are also predicted.

Travel conditions are expected to be hazardous Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, the Weather Service said.

Long Island has already seen 14.9 inches of snow during December and half an inch on Jan. 7, according to the Weather Service. More snow fell on Jan. 8 but official totals were not yet available.
