Mattituck-Laurel: ‘Dancing with the Staff’ set for Jan. 28

With snow on the ground and the cold air, encouraging many of us to stay indoors, hunkering down with a good book is a great option to while away the hours. Mattituck-Laurel Library’s Bev Wowak wants to remind you that this month’s book discussion will feature Robert B. Parker’s “Double Play.” There’s still time to pick up a copy if you’d like to join the discussion Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m.

During the winter months it’s also a good idea to have special events to look forward to cheer us up. “Dancing with the Staff” has become a yearly event that’s well worth the ticket price and the dancers work for weeks preparing their acts. If you are “In the Mood” to watch a dance group trip the light fantastic, see Mrs. Diorio and Mr. McKenna shuffle to a “sweet” choice of songs, watch Mrs. Cheshire and Mr. Deerkoski swinging into the spotlight or applaud the rhythm of Mrs. Harper and Mr. Louser (just to mention a few), watch this column for details. Tickets will go on sale soon. The date is Jan. 28 and the show is always sold out.

Belated birthday wishes go to Marcos Perivolaris, who cut his cake on Jan. 7, and Nina Lentini, who celebrated on the 6th.
2010 MHS graduates visited the freshman classes this week to share insights they’ve gathered during their first semester of college. Special thanks go to all the alumni who took time out of their college breaks to enlighten our students.

Birthday candles will warm the homes of the following January babies this week: Kate Ross and Gabriella Macari on the 14th; Marisa Mendez and Emily McDonald on the 16th; and Clifford Rausch on the 18th.

Our high school musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” is currently in rehearsal. The students and faculty are excited to have the opportunity to bring musical theater back to Mattituck after a long hiatus. Performances are Feb. 9, 10 and 11, and it promises to be a show you won’t want to miss.

The Empty Bowls Project, headed by art teacher Jeanne Fallot, culminates Feb. 11 after months of work by students to create bowls and bring attention to the problem of global hunger. Mark your calendars and set aside that evening to participate by purchasing a bowl for a good cause and enjoying some soup before heading off to one of the musical performances slated for that evening.

Best wishes to Megan Bundrick and Rich Jernick on their recent engagement. They are planning a summer 2012 wedding. Congratulations!

  • Grana in Jamesport.NY is without a doubt a top notch Woodoven, Neopolitan pizza establishment. Besides offering incredible, fresh and flavorful assortment of pies, the chef, Davis plath is a gifted chef overall. His bread, salads, desserts, soups and Paninis are mouth watering and will bring you back for more. The same can be said for his pies. People just want to come back for more. Some folks have come from as far away as NYC , Brooklyn and queens. One couple I spoke to came from Indianapolis after hearing a parents raving. This facilitiy started as a dream off the Plaths. Dave and Nancy bought a shell of a buidling and created the tasteful and warm premisis which warmly welcomes all on main street. While Dave puts in gruelling fourteen hours days in the back, his partner and wife Nancy holds down the front, greeting and serving all comers with grace and charm. It is clear to me that many come back just because their friend Nancy will be there to greet them.

  • No comparison! Grana is the place to go for comfortable atmosphere, amazing food, gracious staff and a wonderful evening or afternoon.

We stop in on Saturday nights on our way home from 5 o’clock mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel! My husband’s “new” favorite pizza is “NoFo” with the fennel sausage. My favorite is still “Rosa Bianca”.
