The Orient woman who was pregnant with actor Owen Wilson’s baby delivered a boy in Hawaii Friday, according to Usmagazine.com.

Jade Duell, 28, became an internet sensation this week after news broke that she was pregnant with Mr. Wilson’s baby. It is the first child for both.

Ms. Duell, the daughter of Diana and Linton Duell, longtime owners of the Orient Country Store is a 2000 graduate of Greenport High School. She formerly worked as a police officer for the U.S. Supreme Court.

Around the world people were clamoring to know just who Ms. Duell is this week. According to Yahoo, searches on the name “jade duell” rose an astonishing 288,000 percent in just one day this week, after word of her pregnancy spread.

“The curious also sought details on ‘jade duell and owen wilson,’ ‘jade duell photos’ and the simple query, ‘who is jade duell,’ according to a story on Yahoo.com.

After graduating from Greenport, Ms. Duell attended the University of Maryland, where she received a BA in criminal justice in 2004, according to school records. A good student at Greenport, the Suffolk Times’ 2000 graduation section reveals a host of accolades she claimed, including the Greenport PTA Scholarship; EESCO Foundation Grant; Greenport Teachers’ Assocation Scholarship; Griswold-Terry-Glover Post No. 803 Scholarship; North Fork Lions Club Jonas Higbee Memorial Scholarship; Orient Fire Department Award; Oysterponds Parents’ Guild Memorial Fund Scholarship; Southold Town Kiwanis Club Scholarship.

In her Greenport High School yearbook from 2000, Jade Duell said, “The way you find out what life’s about is simply living to be strong, stay strong, let nobody crush you.”

In high school she played field hockey and softball and was a member of Interact, the student service organization. She was sorts and features editor for the school newspaper, “Quill,” and a member of the Spanish Club, chorus and a representative to Empire Girls State.

In a 2004 issue of The Suffolk Times, Greenport community columnist Joan Dinizio congratulated Ms. Duell on her new career with the Supreme Court: “Greenport High School (in general) and Orient (in particular) can now lay claim to a connection with the highest court in the land. Diana and Linton Duell must be so proud (I know brother Matt is) that their daughter, Jade, is now an officer of the Supreme Court of the United States of America. Matt showed me some pictures Jade took while she was in training. I swear one gun she held was almost as big as she is.”

Ms. Duell, 28, left her job with the U.S. Supreme Court in 2006, a court spokesperson confirmed Friday. She has been dating the Academy Award nominated screenwriter and star of “Marley & Me” and “Wedding Crashers” for a little more than a year, according to Entertainment Weekly. The two live together in Mr. Wilson’s home in Hawaii, Yahoo reports.

Stories about Ms. Duell and Mr. Wilson, 42, have spread not just on celebrity sites this week, but also on maternity sites after details were revealed of the couples plans for a home birth.

But most of the Internet reports reveal very little about the North Fork native, who Yahoo dubbed “Owen Wilson’s mystery girlfriend.”

“It’s not often that the magical Web doesn’t reveal all,” wrote Yahoo reporter Claudine Zap. “In this case, we are coming up with few details on Duell’s life. We can tell you this: As far as we can see, the mystery mate hasn’t starred in any movies, walked a red carpet, or been on a fashion faux pas list.”

Vera Chinese, Julie Lane and Michael White contributed to this story.

  • No Shit I remember her… Damn she put little old GHS on the Map

  • Congrats Jade I hope you have an easy birth

  • Very cool! Great news, Jade! Congratulations!

  • Why does this newspaper continue to sensationalize? It is so offensive, you have become a tabloide

  • so she does all this stuff then quits work in less than 6 years on the job to date a movie star??

  • Just curious: how is this story sensationalized?

  • The paper can’t overlook something like this. I guess what constitutes fame and importance is subjective, though. What if a local woman was having a child with a Kennedy? Would that then be news? Or should the simply paper ignore that too?

  • I am completely appalled that the Suffolk Times is covering this! Jade and Owen, as well as her very supportive friends and family have worked very hard to stay out of the limelight. Up until this week no one knew anything about Jade. Your coverage reveals more about her than any of the other slimy celeb mags on the stands these days. IMHO, as a “community” newspaper, you should’ve helped rally around Jade to keep her identity quiet for as long as possible, not expose her to the world. You are no better than the inquirer in my opinion. Shame on you! Now you will be bringing unneccessery media attention to Orient.

  • Oh no, another unwed mother. How will she ever be able to afford the baby. Guaranteed poverty, so sad.

  • Who cares.

  • congratulations. i’m sure it’s a beautiful baby with such beautiful parents.

  • You call this a “story”? It looks like a cut and paste job from several different “sources”. Do I really need to know that Jade won the Orient Fire Dept. award? What is the purpose except to post as much personal information as you can google? Did you actually interview anyone?
In the old days, I would expect to see this in the Birth Announcements.

  • The way this story is written, it should have been titled “The Way Jade Duell Became Owen Wilson’s Baby Mama.” You make Jade like the stork instead of an actual person. Shame!

  • Celebrities need people paying attention to them, otherwise they would be out of work. If they aren’t in the public eye, their careers are as good as dead. That being said, anyone who gets involved with a celebrity has to realize that they will be in the public eye, they will be written about, talked about and scrutinized. It’s part of what you sign on for, and as much as you try to avoid it, it’s NOT POSSIBLE. Plus, if you read where the information came from, it’s from her high school yearbook, The Suffolk Times and other news sources. Anyone could have obtained this information.

  • her father unfortunately has the personality of a dial tone, i hope it was not passed on to his daughter.

  • orient? really? I didn’t know she was a rug

  • Leave Linton alone, there is a reason he doesn’t like you.

  • Lets hope the baby and parents are happy and healthy, then GIVE THEM SOME PRIVACY.

  • I am appalled that my words were used in this piece. I wrote those words in 2004 because I was proud of Jade and what she accomplished. I adore Jade and to have them used in this piece of trash angers me. What Jade does in her personal life is HER business and no one elses and I would have thought that Suffolk Times was above this kind of “reporting”. ~ Joan Dinizio

  • I don’t see where the problem is with the reporting. From my persepective, it is interesting to come from a small town and see that someone from Orient is married to a celeb and having a baby. It’s not scandalous but happy news. I don’t see that the Suffolk Times did anything bad here.

  • i wonder if Lyn will as rude to the glitteroti as he is with everyone else that goes in his store?

  • Absolutely true. Grow up the rest of you people, are you envious that you can’t make the papers in a good way?

  • i think owen wilson is an idiot for getting involved with an asian chick. what is wrong with white woman n ow their kids will be half breeds i hope he dumps her

  • no – but he sure is good at sorting out the trash that occassionally comes in the store….a look in the mirror might be in order.

  • i just have one simple question for the suffolk times, i wonder would you have been praising the 7th graderr who was pregnant if she was with a movie star the way you wrote about jade? i have known jade for years and its no ones business but hers and i dont hink you should have put it in the local paper. anyone who had the right to know locally probably already knew.

  • Nicole, We would have written about how that movie star was arrested. Owen Wilson is the 85th biggest movie star in the world, according to Forbes.com. When a person of his stature has a baby with a local girl from our small town, we consider that news. We stand by our reporting of this story. — The Suffolk Times

  • Everyone who was upset about the Suffolk Times for covering this, please come back and post what you think about The Star’s article about Jade in the January 31 issue on pages 40-41.

  • Both this article and the Star article share the fact that they are attention-seeking and therefore had no chance of getting any interviews by anyone who has ever known Jade, much less her family. This article has also, I would think, sunk any chance of any future real story that involves something other than rehashing web articles and some old high school accolades. Perhaps it has led to a few more clicks onto the Suffolk Times. I hope it does not make Jade feel awkward coming home to visit, as this should be her haven. Also, everyone who knew did a great job of protecting her before it was announced. All my best to the family.

  • the people from this geographic area appear to be so starstruck it’s humorous. a young woman had the baby of a much older man who happens to be celebrity. congratulations. whoop-de-doo.

  • Please Please make sure next year around this time you mention in your “community ” section Happy Birthday to the baby.

  • Also would anyone like to comment on the Debbie Schlussel neoconservative blog entry from today, “Safe? Air Marshal Too Busy Picking Up Owen Wilson to Protect Plane”?

  • Happily! My disgust lies with the way Suffolk Times handled this. The Star Magazine is trash and I’m sure Jade was readily prepared for trashy articles like this. Suffolk Times coverage of Jade was no different than Stars- insignificant facts just to make a headline. Had they interviewed Jade- perhaps citing more UTD facts as well as an UTD photo- and released it as a “hometown proud” article, I might’ve been more intrigued.

  • Actually that’s not the Star article that the Guest above was talking about. They were referring to the article one week later that discussed how she handled two previous break ups, and stating that she does not really love Owen or find him attractive, that she and her family were only interested in his money, etc. Post reply if you need to see it, that can be arranged. I am interested in your thoughts.

  • I like Owen Wilson for his films and how he makes so many Americans laugh! Also, in interviews, he just seems like a nice guy. I am happy for both of them. If Jade was just out for his money and not in it for love, “That is really sad”. I bet the baby is so beautiful. I wish much happiness for all three of them. Mostly for the little baby. Love your films Owen!

  • she is a great person. I’m from Orient and can’t be happier for her and her. She has a lot of people celebrating the birth of the new baby.

  • There’s another set of articles about her this week, describing her last two relationships again and mentioning Jason Hawryschuk by name. Comments, reactions?

  • Why is the Suffolk times writing like a tabloid? Seems like these two just want peace and quiet and yet everyone is trying to bother them. Please give them a break.

  • what a hyporcrit… im sure you didnt read the article

  • Born in Hawaii huh? Hope he doesn’t want to become President one day!

  • Well less than six months later you all have time to reflect on how your small town girl has done now that she is back in your midst, a lot richer for having a kid with a mentally unstable man . and as we as we near 10th anniversary of 9 11 what an unprofessioal rick her actions showed her to be she is not worth defending.for that alone

  • Well now 6 months later you have time to reflect on how well your small town girl has done now she is back in your midst having had a child with a mentally unstable man.A lot richer thats for sure. Also and for me the most inportant point as we approach the10th anniversary of 9-11 what a splendid job she did in exposing short comings of the recruitment criteria, for air marchals by her appaling unprofessioal actions. They now have the perfect time to raise the standards and make certain only people who truly put natioal safty above own greed and self interest, which can only be a good thing . Thank you ms Duell for expoing this.

  • I just came across the article and I think it’s interesting. It’s about someone local. They are in a relationship with a celebrity. What’s all the indignation about?
