Vincent Noel Ward

Vincent Noel Ward of Greenport, 75, died in Port St. Lucie, Fla., on Jan. 6 after a brief illness.

Born Dec. 21, 1935, in Kingston, N.Y., to Edward and Marie Ward, he entered the Navy after graduating from New York State Maritime College at Ft. Schuyler, N.Y. He served for seven years on active duty and continued for 30 years in the reserves, retiring as a commander.

He earned his master’s degree in business in 1971 at Bernard Baruch School of Business at City College of New York and had a long career with New York Telephone and Verizon, retiring in 1995.

He survived by his wife, Patricia (née Dunne), the high school sweetheart he married in 1958. He is also survived by a son and daughter, James, of Farmingdale, and Kerry Strobl of Huntington; two brothers, Edward and Raymond; and a sister, Helen Mazzoli. He was predeceased by his brother Jack and sisters Marie, Rosemary and Alice.

Spending time with his only grandchild, Chelsea Marie Strobl, was the greatest joy of his life. An avid golfer who also enjoyed world travel, he was an active member of St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport, where he volunteered every year for the Kathleen Ahearn Golf Tournament and other events.

Visiting hours were at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport on Jan. 11. A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Agnes R.C. Church on Jan. 12, officiated by the Rev. Thomas Murray. Burial followed at Calverton National Cemetery with military honors.
