Congressman Bishop: My take on Obama’s State of the Union

Ensuring our future prosperity means out-innovating and out-educating the rest of the world.  We need to unite behind a fiscally responsible strategy that invests in education, clean energy and infrastructure to create jobs and lay the foundation for American success.

Specifically, I fully support the President’s call to build on our past investments in making college affordable for all Americans students.  Not only should Congress make the $10,000 tuition tax credit permanent, we must also protect Pell Grants, Perkins Loans, and all of the tools that help our best and brightest succeed and innovate.

Also critically important is the President’s call to “redouble” our efforts to build a 21st century transportation network.  Fully paid-for infrastructure investments will put the struggling construction industry back to work today and help private enterprise create the jobs of the future, just as the Interstate Highway System served as a pathway to prosperity when it was begun more than fifty years ago.

Editor’s Note: The above is a statement issued by Congressman Tim Bishop (D-Southampton) following the State of the Union address Tuesday night.

  • Good luck with this crap. You guys aren’t gonna get anything passed because we made sure your type are in the minority and will stay that way.

  • A shining example of the party of “no”.

  • Your right… No to big government. No to more unsustainable spending. No to neosocialism. No to radical social reforms. No to people such as yourself that think government is the solution to all of humanities problems. Government IS the problem and the less of it there is the better the human condition will be. SELF RELIANCE is the key to happiness and prosperity, not the nanny state that people like you profess. Grow up pilgrim, see the light, it’s not too late.

  • How about the next time one of our states obsessed with “no” tries to secede we let them and send all the Flannel guys with them. Maybe then we can start to rebuild the civilization our grandparents fought for and our parents sold for luxury. Social programs = socialism? The billionaires love these uneducated suckers. It’s how they gift their children.

  • Not too mention all of the illegal structures that have been installed by the North Shore Beach Property Owner Association. A perfect example is right in this picture. Their are no permits for the fences or the decks and staircases they built in the wetlands. They are not in compliance with Town Code either.

  • Guest, Please e-mail me at [email protected] regarding the structures installed by the NSBPOA. Thank you!
