Cutchogue-New Suffolk: Fire chiefs Steak Night fundraiser and Lions Club’s corned beef/cabbage dinner

Whether it’s at school, the bank, the library, the post office, the supermarket or on Facebook, catching up with folks is always good! Jeff Baldwin shared that both his children are doing well. Kate lives in Brooklyn and works in the city as a Web designer. Mike is living in Baltimore, pursuing a career in law enforcement. Marilyn Goodwin shared that her son Danny graduated with a degree in engineering and is gainfully employed by Greenway Environmental in Calverton, and her daughter Tracey is studying public relations at St. John’s University. Ken Robbins shared that his son Derek earned a degree in mechanical engineering and is working with John Deere.

Belated happy birthday wishes to Heidi Wysocki, who celebrated on Feb. 23 with her husband, JR, and son, Dillion.

The chiefs of Cutchogue Fire Department invite you to join them at the department’s 15th annual Chiefs Steak Night fundraiser on Saturday, March 5, 6 to 9 p.m. at the firehouse. Tickets are available for $28 each at the firehouse or from any CFD firefighter. Dinner includes steak, salad, dessert and a choice of soda, beer and local wines donated by Jason’s Vineyard. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. The chiefs look forward to seeing you there!

Come join the community as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The Cutchogue-New Suffolk Chamber of Commerce (now part of the North Fork Chamber of Commerce) and the Cutchogue Fire Department are pleased to announce the seventh annual Cutchogue St. Patrick’s Day Parade, to take place Saturday, March 12. All local civic groups are invited to participate. Contact parade chairperson Joe Corso at 734-5959.

Speaking of St. Patrick’s Day, the East End Lions Club’s 57th corned beef and cabbage dinner will be Wednesday and Thursday, March 16 and 17, from noon to 8 p.m. at the Soundview in Greenport. Tickets are $18 in advance at Peconic Liquors in Cutchogue, or call Pam Graeb (734-7136) or Shelley Case (734-6742). The cost is $20 at the door. Proceeds support local scholarships, charitable community work and the Lions’ sight-related work.

Thomas P.M. Couse spent much time in Cutchogue at his family’s summer home on Beachwood Lane — first with his parents, then with his wife, Joanne; children, Charles and Ellen; and grandchildren, Jason and Madelyn. He was steeped in the local traditions and events for which summers on the North Fork are known. His bungalow on the bay was a second home and he put down deep social roots throughout the community. It was with sadness that Alan Mear of Cutchogue and Virginia got in touch to share news of Mr. Couse’s death on Feb. 8 at age 75. He will be sorely missed. His interment will be later this spring at Cutchogue Cemetery.

North Fork Reform Synagogue’s Cinema Series presents “Hester Street” on Saturday, Feb. 26, 7:30 p.m. in the social room at Cutchogue Presbyterian Church. Discussion and refreshments will follow. All are welcome. Suggested donation: $5 per person. Visit northforkreformsynagogue.com or call 722-5712.
