Ruth Hyatt

Ruth Hyatt of Southold died Feb. 24 in Port Jefferson. She was 87.

Born Sept. 25, 1923, in Jersey City, N.J., to Ruth Arlene (Cantelin) and Benjamin Franklin Reynolds, she grew up in Jamaica, Queens, and worked as a telephone operator for the New York Telephone Company.

At age 18, she married Robert Hyatt at Greenport United Methodist Church, and they lived in Greenport until he went into the service during World War II.  When he returned, they settled in Southold, where, family members said, she was a devoted member of Southold United Methodist Church.

Predeceased by her husband and her daughter, Gerry Lou Corazzini, Ms. Hyatt is survived by her son, Robert Jr., of Calverton; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

There will be no visiting hours. Graveside services and interment will take place Saturday, March 5, at 1 p.m. at Southold Presbyterian Cemetery. The Rev. George Gaffga will officiate.
