Cutchogue-New Suffolk: Cell Phones for Soldiers, drama workshop for kids

Sunday morning, as the sun rose in the east over Bedell Vineyards, the “supermoon” treated early risers to the beauty of the largest moon in nearly 20 years, which illuminated the sky as it slipped away behind the rows of vines at Pugliese Vineyards. What a way to start the day!

Cell Phones for Soldiers is back! You may have noticed the red collection box at the Cutchogue post office. Donate your old cell phone for recycling and help purchase calling cards for our service personnel overseas. This is a continuation of the drive started two years ago by MHS grad Sarah Conlin, whose effort has since provided soldiers with 40,000 minutes of talk time. Her family is continuing the effort, so please consider donating.

Happy anniversary to Susie and Jeff Smith, who will be celebrate 44 years of marriage today,  March 24.

Mary-Beth Shipman is sending out birthday wishes to her sister, Mary Kate Schwarz, who turned 30 yesterday, and her daughter, Grace Shipman, who turns 9 on March 25.

North Fork Reform Synagogue’s “Cinematic Series” presents “A Serious Man” on Saturday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the social room at Cutchogue Presbyterian Church. The film is described as a “sublimely funny, involving, distinctive serio-comedy of mid-life crisis set in the American midwest in the 1960s.” All are welcome. Refreshments will be served. Suggested donation: $5 per person.

Take a nostalgic trip down memory lane on Sunday, April 3, at 2:30 p.m. Susan and David Dingle will perform Cole Porter, George Gershwin and other favorites from the Great American Song Book on stage at Creation Station behind Cutchogue United Methodist Church. Admission free; donations appreciated

Calling the ‘young at heart’ — children, parents and grandparents included. There’s still time to register for the youth drama workshop and performance of the original children’s musical, “Cat Tales: What the Alley Cats Learned About Bullies.” Contact Mary Agria, 765-5667 or [email protected]. The free intergenerational workshops are Saturdays, April 9 and 16, from 9:30 a.m. to noon and the public performance is Sunday, April 17, at 3 p.m.

Cutchogue-New Suffolk Library’s Friday Family Flick at 4 p.m. on March 25 will be “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” and the Friday Night Movie at 7 p.m. will be “The Social Network.” Register for “A Window on Chinese Contemporary Culture, Poetry, Art & Film” on Saturday, March 26, at 2 p.m. Enjoy a multimedia celebration, refreshments and a signing of the book ”Voices of the Fourth Generation: China’s Poets Today” by Keming Lui-Riley. Pilates classes will meet for eight weeks on Mondays, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. from March 28 to May 9. The fee for the series is $60. On Tuesday, March 29, 6:30-7:30 p.m., you can “relive” the experience of the Civil War with moderator Richard Radoccia, Refreshments served.
