Mattituck-Laurel: Cut-a-thon to benefit Relay for Life

If you’re watching TV and notice a familiar face in a Waldbaum’s commercial, it’s our very own local store manager Bill Goff. Nice job, Bill!

March birthdays are abundant this week with the following folks enjoying their special moments: Paul Demchuk, Andrew Cushman, Mark Rolle and Eddie Gatto today, March 10; Kathy Williams on the 11th; Lauren Bladykas, Patty Schultz and Katie Fedison on the 12th; Alex Sirico on the 13th; Lindsay Marino and Christopher Caprise on the 14th; Pat Bradley on the 15th; and Brittany Letteriello, Emily Deerkoski and Danielle Stepnoski on the 16th. Happy birthday everyone!

Several weeks ago I reported that Mattituck High School physical education classes had a chance to learn ballroom dancing with the Arthur Miller Dance Studio thanks to the generosity of the Friends of Music and the PTSA. Little did some of our students know when those skills would come in handy. During February break, Kathleen Galvin, Ted Biedenkap and Lisa Hinsch accompanied a group of our students on a trip to Argentina. As part of their tour, the students had the opportunity to watch and participate in tango lessons. Much to the chaperones’ surprise, these students already had mastered the fundamentals of this dance due to their experience at MHS. This was only one moment of many from the trip that the students will remember for a lifetime!

Lenny Llewellyn called to inform me that the U.S. Peconic Bay Power Squadron is making instructional materials for a program called “Water Smart from the Start” available to local schools. The materials include books, computer programs and more. For more information about this program contact Lenny at 298-4793.

The fourth annual Hope for a Cure Cut-a-Thon will take place Saturday, March 26, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hair Experience in Mattituck. This event is sponsored by A Dream Is a Wish Relay Team, a dedicated group of MHS students led by captain Amy Dries. For a donation of $45 (adults) or $30 (students) you’ll get a wash, cut, style and luncheon provided by The Village Cheese Shop, Wendy’s Deli and Butta’ Cakes Cupcake Factory. Thanks to the stylists’ generosity, all proceeds will benefit Southold Town’s Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society. This fundraiser will make you look good and feel good! Walk-ins welcome. Call Hair Experience today at 298-4575.

A new women’s golf league is forming at Island’s End in Greenport. If you’re interested in playing at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, contact Barbara Koch at 765-3464 or [email protected].
