Downed power line sparks Southold fire

A powerline downed by high winds sparked a small roadside fire on the Main Road east of Southold village just before 10 p.m. Thursday night.

While the live  line burned on the ground, Southold Fire Department responders had to keep their distance at first until the Long Island Power Authority switched off the electricity.

Main Road was briefly closed to traffic in both directions.
