Greenport: A breakfast buffet, a boutique sale, and a dinner fundraiser

Oh, the madness of March! There were a few surprises in the NCAA tournament, and my brackets suffered because of it, but it’s still my favorite time of the year. It sure does help to make the month of March fly by!

The Friends of Troop 51 in Greenport will hold a breakfast buffet this Sunday, March 27, at Holy Trinity Church in Greenport. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children under age 12. Children under age 4 are free. Proceeds from this event will go to the Holy Trinity Church boiler fund and the Greenport Skating Rink Fund. For tickets call 276-3706.

Speaking of Holy Trinity, the church hosted a most successful Shrove Tuesday ham dinner this year. The first of four annual fundraising events, the dinner raised $1,000, and all proceeds will go to charities and local community activities. Many thanks to the dedicated dinner crew, who served an elaborate five-course meal of homemade pea soup, baked ham with raisin sauce, baked beans, potatoes, vegetables, homemade desserts, beverages and a choice of wines.

On April 1, the members of the Eastern Long Island Hospital Auxiliary will be hosting a “Jewels and More” boutique sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the hospital conference room. For further information, call 477-5196.

I’d like to give one more plug to Jillian Ruroede’s prom boutique, which will be open to junior and senior GHS girls on April 6. If you’ve got any semi-formal, prom or bridesmaid’s dresses hanging around your home, this is the perfect opportunity to make good use of them. Give Jillian a call at the school, 477-1950, to arrange for pickup.

If you’re setting up your April schedule, be sure to include Southold Rotary’s chicken and ribs or salmon dinner fundraiser on Tuesday, April 26, at Soundview Restaurant in Greenport, from noon until 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased from any Southold Rotarian or at the door. Takeout will be available. Proceeds will support various Club projects, such as student scholarships for local high school students, Eastern Long Island Hospital, Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck in Center Moriches, Maureen’s Haven, the Greenport after-school program, holiday food baskets, Rotary Youth Exchange, the Interact and Early Act clubs, and the ongoing effort to eradicate polio worldwide.

It sure was nice having my sister-in-law and her husband, Joy and Ralph Navarro, home this past weekend. Joy had an early celebration of her decade-changing birthday, which was March 23.

Belated birthday wishes go to Diondra Hooten-Langhorne, who turned one year old on March 19.

Those celebrating birthdays during the upcoming week include Sherylee Lupton, granddaughter of Dot and Paul Mellas, today, March 24, along with Matt Swain, Kelly Comiskey and Chris Sponza; Aaron Smith and Neisha Shelby on the 25th; Jeff Bubb on the 26th; Carol Giovannelli on the 27th; Tracy Kruszeski on the 28th; Debbie Volinski, Marylin Daly, John Bednoski and Vincent Leone on the 29th; and Jessica Dunne, April Jolliver, Scott Dinizio and Bobby Wysocki on the 30th.

The happiest of anniversaries is wished to Amie and Frank Sponza, who celebrate their 21st today, March 24.
