William Joseph Walters Sr.

William Joseph Walters Sr., formerly of Mattituck, died at his home in South Daytona, Fla., on April 2, 2011. He was 57 years old.

He was born in Winter Park, Fla., on Jan. 18, 1954, to Lenard and Betty (née Patton) Walters and was a graduate of Hauppauge High School. As a youth, Bill was a competitive dance skater, taking first place in the national competition.

On May 7, 1983, he married Diana DiVello. Bill had been a local HVAC contractor for many years, the past five for Alltech HVAC Design Company in Florida.

He leaves behind his former wife and the mother of his children, Diana DiVello of Mattituck; his children, William J. Walters Jr. of Mattituck; Christopher Walters, USMC Corporal stationed in Twenty-nine Palms, Calif., his wife, Brenda, and son, Christopher Jr.; Andrew Walters, USMC Corporal stationed in San Diego, Calif., and his daughter, Megan, of New Hyde Park; Brett Walters and his wife, Carrie, and daughter, Alexa, of Maryland; a nephew, Keith Walters, and wife, Lyndsey, of Selden; and his employers and “extended family,” Mike Stover and Mike Stover Jr. of Florida. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Walters.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, April 7, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 8, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.
