Alfreda M. Taplin

Alfreda Marie Taplin of Southold died on April 13, 2011, in Greenport at the age of 84.

She was born in Greenport on June 25, 1926, to Charles and Lila (Clark) Quarty and married Robert Edward Taplin Jr. in Greenport on September 6, 1946.

Freda was a communicant of St. Agnes R.C. Church and will be remembered for her love of her family — especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Taplin Jr., and two children, Charles Taplin and Linda Taplin, she leaves her children and their spouses, Robert and Linda Taplin of Cutchogue and Barbara and Edward Rudder of Southold; another daughter-in-law, Bernadette Taplin (the late Charles); two sisters, Mabel Waterhouse of Delaware and Pauline Luter of Southold; a brother, William Quarty of Delaware; five grandchildren, Lynda Rudder, Cathryn Hall, Karly Lucarelli, Wesley Taplin and Rachel Taplin; and two great-grandchildren, Courtney and Matt Hall.

The family received friends Friday, April 15, at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold, where parish prayer services were conducted by Father Peter Garry. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, April 16, at St. Agnes R.C. Church by Father Thomas Murray. Interment was at Southold Presbyterian Cemetery.

Memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
