In 2006, Marjam Supply purchased Penny Lumber, which had been founded in 1890 in Mattituck by George L. Penny, expanding to Greenport in 1961. Marjam continues to run the company with the same values — and many of the same faces.
Marjam Supply Company was founded in 1979, with the purchase of a warehouse in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, a few thousand dollars in assets and the mission of providing a highly specialized, customer-service-driven distributor of lumber, plywood and other building materials to the trade. Since then Marjam has experienced continuous and sustained growth and now operates 28 “super centers” in 12 states that serve the entire East Coast of the U.S. and is one of the most respected businesses in the country’s competitive construction supply industry. It attributes this growth to the highly valued repeat business of their customers.
