Greenport: Don’t miss North Fork Chorale concerts, Cub Scout fundraiser dinner and PTA plant sale

April sure has lived up to the old adage “April showers bring May flowers.” With May right around the corner, I’m sure hoping the latter part of that saying comes to fruition.

To help it along, the Greenport PTA will hold its annual plant sale in the school lobby Wednesday, May 4, through Friday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. If you can’t make it during that time, fear not. The PTA will also sell annuals, perennials, herbs and vegetables on the front lawn of the school on Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. until noon.

Cub Scout Pack 51 of Greenport will hold its annual chicken dinner fundraiser at the Soundview Restaurant on Wednesday, May 4, from 1 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $17 per person and takeout will be available. Tickets can be purchased from any scout or at the door.

Congratulations to those same scouts, who collected over 200 pounds of food for local food pantries during their annual food drive last month. Way to go, boys!

Lucille Naar-Saladino, owner of Main Stage Dance Academy, will celebrate National Dance week by speaking to Greenport students in grades K through 2 about the beauty of dance on Friday, April 29, at 2 p.m. Second-graders Anabelle Odell and Marley Medina, who are also Main Stage students, will demonstrate some dance steps.

The North Fork Chorale will celebrate its 75 years of making melodies with three concerts. The Chorale will perform Friday, April 29, at 8 p.m. at Southold Presbyterian Church; Saturday, April 30, at 8 p.m. at Mattituck Presbyterian Church; and Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m. at Orient Congregational Church. Tickets for all performances are $10 per person and can be purchased from Chorale members of at the door.

Greenport schools are going green while getting green! The school is collecting empty laser and inkjet printer cartridges and used cell phones, which can be exchanged for technology and recreational products or even cash. Community and business supporters can drop off cartridges and cell phones at the school between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. through the end of May.

Birthday wishes go out this week to Jon Gould, Brandon Padworski and Jim McAllister on the 29th; Claude Kumjian, Josh Horton and Jennifer Costello on the 30th; Christopher Lakowitz Slaght and John Blasko on May 1; Jewell Gonzalez and Abaigeal Pacholk on the 2nd; Ricky Haynie, Greg Rhinow, Amy Milovich, Colin Van Tuyl and Karen McLaughlin on the 3rd; and my niece Stevi Dinizio, Jennifer Kopek, Mike Quillin, Joan Moore, Dave Kapell, Deborah Angevine and Brianna McElroy on the 4th.

The happiest of anniversaries is wished to Suzanne and Curtis Hamilton, who celebrate 46 years of wedded bliss on May 1.

I’m going to let you all in on a little secret. The mainstream media will have you believe that the marriage of Kate Middleton and Prince William is the wedding of the century. But that’s really just a ploy to take the spotlight off the real wedding of the century, which takes place the following day in Wilmington, N.C., when Jaclyn Salottolo becomes the wife of Marcus Tooker, the son of Cindy and Matt Tooker, my sister-in-law and her husband. Now you know!
