Town Hall Notes: Noise ordinance to be discussed next week

NOISE REFERRED AGAIN

Southold’s long-awaited noise ordinance will be on the agenda at a code committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 18, at 2:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex board room. Town Board members said Tuesday they won’t meet with a consultant who planned to charge the town to provide input on appropriate decibel levels to include in the code.

Town Attorney Martin Finnegan said the town has obtained noise ordinance laws from other towns and will review them next Wednesday to help develop the decibel limits.

FACTORY AVENUE PARKING CHANGES

The town attorney’s office is currently drafting changes to parking restrictions on Factory Avenue in Mattituck, which has been plagued by commercial truck traffic bound for the neighboring Mattituck Plaza shopping center.

Mr. Finnegan told the board Tuesday that he plans to draft the law to prohibit truck parking on both sides of Factory Avenue between Route 25 and Old Sound Avenue. He said he hopes the public gives ample feedback on the proposal at a future public hearing, in order to create a law that residents are happy with. The board has not yet scheduled that hearing.

PUBLIC SESSION ON WEBSITE

Southold Town will hold an informational public meeting on a plan to update its website on Thursday, May 19, at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall meeting room. Residents will have a chance to see various website designs used by other towns and others created by several firms in the running for Southold’s redesign.
