Oysterponds to host meet the candidates night for school principal

Oysterponds Board of Education members have narrowed their choices for school principal down to two and now want to give residents a chance to meet the finalists. James Williams and Francoise Wittenburg will be at a “meet the candidates” session Wednesday night, June 8, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mr. Williams is assistant principal at Nassakeag Elementary School in the Three Village Central School District. He’s  a graduate of SUNY Old Westbury with an undergraduate degree in marketing and management. He earned his master’s degree in elementary education at Dowling College and holds a graduate certificate in educational leadership from SUNY Stony Brook.

He told board members he believes his mission is to create an atmosphere where all students are challenged at their educational level and are given every opportunity to succeed both academically and socially in a safe and supportive environment.

He has family on the North Fork and said he would like to live nearer to them.

Ms. Wittenburg  in assistant principal at Arlington High School in Lagrangeville, N.Y. She received a certificate in French language and civilization from the University of Paris, La Sorbonne. She earned an undergraduate degree in human service studies at Cornell University and holds a master’s degree from Teachers College at Columbia University.

She said students deserve an education that will afford them maximum opportunities in life and she’s committed to making that happen.

Ms. Wittenburg grew up in Shoreham/Wading River where her father was a principal.
