Water quality warning

Long Islanders will face “serious problems” with their drinking water come 2050 if action isn’t taken now to remedy a groundwater contamination dilemma that has significantly increased within an 18-year time period, environmentalists warned Monday.

Age just didn’t matter

Everyone’s wild about Harry. That was evident during Friday evening’s senior prom at the Southold Human Resources Center in Mattituck when Harry Poulos, 83, of Greenport, was elected senior prom king. He absolutely commanded the dance floor, jitterbugging with Mattituck High School senior Rebecca Smith, who did her best to keep with the octogenarian.

We live in a maritime climate with no shortage of rain falling onto sandy soil that soaks it up like a sponge. Quality, not quantity, is the issue and has been since the landmark 208 study released in 1977 first identified threats to our surface waters and groundwater supplies.

$4 a gallon? Seriously, that’s just wrong

THIS JUST IN: Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman has announced that his office is completing a comprehensive review of the rising cost of gasoline in the New York metropolitan area, including Long Island.
