Southold-Peconic: Southold Fire Department’s annual craft fair and Wounded Warrior Project’s Soldier Ride

Summer arrived early this year, bringing with it a few sweltering days and some thunderstorms. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ll take that over a snowstorm any day!

Belated anniversary wishes to Dave and Marilyn Daly, who celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on May 8.

Happy birthday to Chris Manfredi on June 16; Bev Lehr, who turns 75, and Jack Medford, who turns 9, on the 17th; and Don Cavaluzzi, John Droskoski and Mark Standish on the 18th.

Come browse among the treasures at Southold Fire Department’s annual craft fair this Saturday, June 18, at the main firehouse starting at 10 a.m.

Southold sixth-graders will participate in the annual “Moving Up” ceremony on Wednesday, June 22, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

Former Southolders Wayne and Deborah Langer of Cape Coral, Fla., have a lot to be proud of lately. Daughter Stephanie graduated from Suffolk Community College in May with an associate degree in business management; son Wayne graduated from the Port Charlotte Corrections Academy in Florida on June 16; and Wayne Sr. will receive his associate in computer science degree in network engineering and administration from Southwest Florida College this Saturday.

The Wounded Warrior Project’s Soldier Ride will take place Saturday, June 25, in memory of fallen Shelter Island hero, 1st Lieutenant Joe Thienert. The 30-mile ride begins at 7 a.m. in Mitchell Park in Greenport, continues on to Mattituck, then returns to Greenport’s Polo Grounds. Those who prefer to walk may choose the 5K route. To participate, or support this organization, visit soldierride.org.

You should have received Southold Free Library’s summer newsletter in the mail by now. If not, pick one up at the circulation desk. It’s filled with programs for all ages.

I’d like to wish all the dads a very happy Father’s Day this Sunday. Spend the day doing whatever makes you the happiest.
