Mattituck-Laurel: Two junior high students receive Triple “C” Award

Commencement for Mattituck High School seniors will be this Saturday at 10 a.m. in the high school auditorium, and it’s no surprise that there are still awards to bestow and students to congratulate. Congratulations to the Class of 2011. The world waits for you with open arms! Enjoy the journey!

At the junior high level, two very special character education awards were given recently. Each year, the state Attorney General’s office acknowledges two eighth-graders for commitment, courage and character. This year’s recipients of the Triple “C” Award were Gebriel Sierra and Susan Veitch. Congratulations!

The following Mattituck students were recognized for artwork displayed during last month’s student art exhibit. Best in Show awards went to Patricija Markovaite for the high school and Oliver Orr for junior high. Other winners included Colin Keil, first place, drawing; Morgan Gildersleeve, first place, painting; Eric Marcus, first place, photography; Ashley Goeller, first place, mixed media: and Emily Fliss, first place, three-dimensional. Honorable mentions for this exhibit went to Casey Grathwohl, Rebecca Grohoski, Kaitlin Simome, Nicole Palladini, Kira Buckle, Caitlin Penny, Brette Rosen, Elly Bergen, James Nish, Robert Veitch, Dawn Rochon, Carolyn Keil, Ethan Jackson, Corrine Reda, Carolyn Marlborough and Justin McKinney. Congratulations one and all!

Cain. Books will be available to pick up soon. Summer’s a great time to read a good book!

Despite a rainy start, the Strawberry Festival was once again a success. Thanks to all the volunteers and visitors for taking time to enjoy this yearly event. Congratulations to Kaitlyn Doorhy — this year’s Mattituck Lions Club Strawberry Queen!

The Class of 2017 celebrated a milestone during their moving-up ceremony this past week. The class reminisced using their own reflections and a slide show of their years at Cutchogue East. Congratulations and best of luck in seventh grade!
