Judith D. Utter died in a tragic automobile accident not far from her home in Mattituck, NY on Friday, June 24th. She was 96, born in White Plains, NY, and attended schools in Rockville Centre, NY, and Fairfax, Virginia.

Judy was predeceased by her husband, George “Crit” Ryder Utter, in 1968. He was a Vice-President of County Federal Savings and Loan Association. She was the daughter of Charley Davey, a respected editor and columnist for the Long Island Daily Press, which later became Newsday, and her mother; Hazel Young Davey, who enjoyed a long career with the Nassau County Police Department, with her name on every county cop’s paycheck, Hazel NEVER got a ticket!

Prior to having lived for more than 40 years in Mattituck, Judy resided for a good part of her life in Rockville Centre, where, throughout the 60’s and 70’s, she and Crit owned and operated Carlson’s Business Service.

Judy was a co-founder of The Nassau Woman’s Club, and a long-time member of The North Fork Community Theatre, and Our Redeemer Episcopal Church, both located in Mattituck.

For many years, Judy volunteered at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. She is survived, just barely, by her son, C. Davey Utter of Venice, CA.

Judy was well loved by a vast network of pals, and will be intensely missed by throngs of devoted friends. A memorial service will be held on July 16th, at 11:00AM, at Our Redeemer Episcopal Church, in Mattituck.
